Hornsby Girls' High School
Edgeworth David Ave
Hornsby
NSW 2072

Hornsby Girls' High School began in the beautiful heritage building in Edgeworth David Avenue, Hornsby in 1930. The school motto Faith with Fortitude is explained in an early edition of The Torch. Faith is stressed as a personal and general quality to achieve, namely faith in yourself, your teachers and the school. More generally the concept of faith in human nature in spite of human weakness is seen to be something worth striving for. Fortitude infers strength "to be strong when one is beaten, to hold up one's hand and fight on when the team or the school is beaten." The motto identifies two values which should be lifelong ambitions. Surely these are as relevant today as they were in the founding days of the school.
